Fall Colors was a big hit! My apologies for the delay in posting this- it’s been quite a whirlwind since the show’s opening, but for posterity’s sake, here are some pics of the event!

The show had a great turnout and I’m extremely proud of the level of work that we showcased. Six of our eight artists were in attendance and the room was full of enthusiasm all afternoon. The artists featured were: Amuna Laima, Aleksandrs Karpovs, John Upmanis, Dan BunnLauren SzaboKristen Brown, and Ginger Fierstein. Justin Riberio opened the show with some beautiful classic guitar melodies, followed by some energetic folk rock from Alex Nitta and Willie Rusert.

The Latvian Hall is such a big space, it was difficult to capture the entirety of the show in one image. It turned out to be perfect for the combination of live music and a gallery space.

Aleksandrs Karpovs' lithographs and etchings were masterworks of social commentary. The work, mostly focused on the suffering of the Latvian people during occupation by the Soviet Union following WWII is incredibly executed as well as heartbreaking. The glass frames made them difficult to photograph- see more at http://aleksandrskarpovs.com/

Amuna Laima's intimate landscapes, mostly painted on location around the Bay Area, added a personal touch for local residents familiar with the locales.

Lauren Szabo's large scale figure paintings of models in costume provided drama and added a unique character to the show.

I contributed a painting to a raffle that directly benefited the Latvian Song Festival next summer in San Jose. Ginger Fierstein, a friend and fellow artist in the show was the lucky winner!

I learned so much from putting on this show, and the fact that people actually attended and enjoyed Fall Colors makes me extremely happy. There is always a lurking fear in the back on one’s mind when organizing an event that no one will come, despite all the promotion and horn blowing beforehand. Luckily, this didn’t happen and we actually contributed a significant amount of donated funds to next years Latvian Song Festival. A good cause was supported via art! And that’s really cool 🙂

Finally, I would like to extend big thanks to the Latvian community in San Francisco for so graciously allowing us to use their Hall. In a crowded town like San Francisco, this kind of show simply wouldn’t have been possible otherwise! Until next year… maybe 😉
